What are cookies?

A cookie is a small piece of data (text file) that a website – when visited by a user – asks your browser to store on your device in order to remember information about you, such as your language preference or login information. Those cookies are set by us and called first-party cookies. We also use third-party cookies – which are cookies from a domain different than the domain of the website you are visiting – for our advertising and marketing efforts. You can think of cookies as providing a “memory” for the website, enabling it to recognise a user and respond appropriately.

How does IamExpatFair.de use cookies?
A visit to a page of IamExpatFair.de may generate the following types of cookie.

› Analytics cookies
These cookies cannot be used to identify individuals and are not made available to third parties. They are used to collect information about how visitors use our site, including the number of visitors to the site, where visitors have come to the site from and the pages they visited.

IamExpatFair.de is using Google Analytics to collect statistics on visits to the website. You can opt out of Google Analytics here.

› Google Analytics and Display Advertising
We have updated our Google Analytics tracking code to support Google Display Advertising. This enables Google Analytics to collect data about your traffic via the DoubleClick cookie in addition to data collected through the standard Google Analytics implementation.

Display Advertising lets us enable features in Analytics that are not available through standard implementations (Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting). We use this data to develop the website and content around our users’ interests.

You can opt out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising and customise Google Display Network ads using the Ads Preferences Manager available here.

› Advertising cookies
These cookies are used by our ad server software to manage which advertisements are placed on our website and to measure clicks on those ads. These cookies cannot be used to identify individuals and are not used to deliver specific content, advertising or otherwise, to your browser.

Also, we might embed video content from websites such as YouTube and Vimeo. As a result, when you visit a page with content embedded from one of these sites you may be presented with cookies from that website. In some cases, IamExpat Media does not control the dissemination of these cookies and you should check the relevant third-party website for more information about them.
